Crafted in 18k gold, this one-of-a-kind cat brooch is built around an oval banded agate body, its soft bands of blue-grey, lavender, and cream running horizontally across the stone to give the figure a striped cat look. The face is formed from a clear-to-frosted quartz cabochon, a smooth, glassy base that contrasts the cooler, more saturated banding of the body, while round ruby cabochons set as the eyes deliver a sharp pop of red against the pale, translucent face. The construction is amazing, with the gold wraps around and over the quartz after setting, with the ears, ribbed brow, whiskers, and nose all in a smooth, deep gold for a floating-head effect that enhances the piece.
The big rounded domed feet and the long curled tail in matte Florentine gold lend the piece a cartoonish, playful character that reads as both vintage and unique.
